An opportunity to fulfill your childhood dreams awaits you this spring
Naperville, IL— For anyone who spent their summer afternoons diving under water, arms fully extended, reaching for that elusive quarry bottom, the opportunity to make those dreams come true has arrived. On April 22, 2006, the Naperville Park District presents the Bottom-feeder Ball, an afternoon of dinner and music at the bottom of Centennial Beach quarry.
The Bottom-feeder Ball, which begins at 4:00pm, will allow guests to enter the deep end of the quarry to raise money for a community gift of a slide for Centennial Beach. Attendees will be greeted at the Bathhouse to the beat of WVHS Jazz Combo I. Upon reaching the bottom of the 15-ft quarry, guests will enjoy a “mocktail” hour, including beverages such as the Centennial Sunset and Iced Quarry Tea to the sounds of the NNHS Symphonic Orchestra. Participants will have the opportunity to take souvenir pictures against the quarry walls or decorate their “I touched the bottom of the 15” t-shirts. While taking in the sights and sounds of this unique experience, guests will also be able to learn about the history of Centennial Beach and its role in the lives of Napervillians as depicted on giant posters around the perimeter of the quarry.
The extraordinary day will continue with an elegant dinner accompanied by the melodies of the NVHS Steelbands. Finally, after swinging to the music of the Naperville Big Band a grand procession out of the quarry will conclude the event at 7:00pm.
The Naperville Park District would like to thank the following sponsors for their commitment to the Beach and support of a slide. Knoch was the general chairman of Naperville’s Centennial Celebration in 1931 when a Permanent Memorial of 45-acres was dedicated. Coach Hal Henning was a Red Cross and swimming instructor at the Beach who went on to become a member of the U.S. and Olympic Swimming Committees.
